Without an internet gathering place to wander through I might never have discovered how people categorize the books they read. When would that ever come up in conversation? I signed up for Goodreads, a site for readers recently. Goodreads provides the ability to create “shelves” for sorting books into categories. Readers can invent their own shelf names. Two categories from a lady named Charissa caught my attention recently. One of her categories is “never finished.” It would not have occurred to me to list books I didn’t finish, at least mostly finish.
The second category is much more fun: “threw-across-the-room.” That immediately caught my attention. Being in this category doesn’t mean she didn’t like the book. It might mean, for example, that the plot took a turn that annoyed her, but she went on with the book anyway.
I also found a category called eye-candy on a few sites. I’ve got to make it a point to check that out someday soon.
