Stephanie Newbold and I photographed Maysa Peterson and Dennis Lach’s wedding on Sunday. That’s the main reason I haven’t added a post in the last few days. I took several hundred photos, and I couldn’t resist the temptation to sort, tweak, crop, and otherwise fiddle around with them.
I noticed several things about the experience of photographing the event. First, the wedding itself was both lovely and unique. Maysa has offspring from a previous marriage. Her son Ian is in the military, and could not attend. He was listed as an usher “in absentia.” Maysa had a cell phone connection with him, and she carried the cell phone to the altar. He heard the entire ceremony. It was one of those wonderful exceptions to the rule. In this case, leave your cell phone on.

Maysa is independent that way—a quality I admire greatly. I also had just the right amount of emotional distance to savor the family and guests. I had photographed the rehearsal, so I had the bare beginnings of a rapport with her family, but I didn’t really know them.
They are delightful people. Scott, the best man, is a very cool looking guy. Yet he was the guy with the lint roller who scanned all the tuxes and went on lint patrol. He made a point to reach out to the young men and make sure they felt cool too.
The young ladies were poised, elegant, and beautiful. Sean and Elina sang and played guitar. Jake played the violin.
It reminded me that life doesn’t get much better than it does at weddings. I think that is why so many photos turned out well. I was lifted on the tide. Congratulations, Maysa and Dennis. And congratulations to all who attended the wedding. Everyone who attended blessed the others and was blessed in return.
Oh, that every day could be a wedding day in this world.
Namaste.
Dan,
Thanks! It was a beautiful and amazing weekend. I’m so glad you were a part of it. Can’t wait to see photos.
